Letter to parents from the superintendent

Letter to parents from the superintendent

Dear Waco ISD Parents,

While most of us are appreciative of and find very useful the communication technologies available in the 21st Century, there is also a down side.

This week some have chosen to use social media to spread rumors about impending violence this Friday at some of our schools. Because rumor messages can quickly go "viral," much worry has been caused among our students, parents, teachers and administrators.

The purpose of my message is to let you know that we are aware of the statements being made on social media and are actively following up on leads that even hint of substance. When appropriate, practical, and within reason, added or enhanced security measures are being implemented.

It is indeed unfortunate when some choose to use social media irresponsibly. While we cannot prevent its misuse, we will continue to use social media to communicate the great things happening at our schools and, when necessary, to quell the rumor mill.

At this time of particular unrest throughout our country, please be reassured that our administrative staff and our district police department are working diligently to maintain safe and secure campuses.

Sincerely,

Bonny Cain
Superintendent
