Underclassmen guide University girls to the next round

Eleventh-graders Laneisha Latimer and Linda Gonzales recorded Top 10 finishes at the District 8-4A Cross Country Meet in Cleburne leading the University Lady Trojans into to Region I Championships in Lubbock on Saturday, November 2.

Latimer crossed the finish line in fourth-place while Gonzales finished in ninth-place. With their dazzling performances, both girls assured themselves automatic bids to the regional meet and with other strong finishes on the team the Lady Trojans earned enough points to finish third-place overall. So all of them will be advancing.

Other members of the University girls team include Angelica Bravo, Kiona Rollins, Cecilia Segura, Phi Cao and Daniela Guerrero. The Lady Trojans are coached by Belinda Denman and Melanie Agee.

Other regional qualifiers from Waco ISD include Waco High's Melissa Gonzalez who finished eighth in the girls' race and Waco High's Rafael Medina who crossed the finish line in sixth-place in the varsity boys' competition.

The University boys finished first in the junior varsity division.
