Waco High School product Derrick Johnson, now a linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs, was named Defensive Most Valuable Player after helping lead his team of superstars to a victory in the 2014 NFL Pro Bowl. The game on Sunday, January 26, saw Team Jerry Rice defeat Team Deion Sanders 22-21. It was DJ's third Pro Bowl appearance.
Playing for Team Rice, Johnson was an unstoppable force recording nine solo tackles and forcing a fumble. Johnson also smacked Chiefs teammate Jamaal Charles during the first quarter. Charles, who like Johnson played college ball at the University of Texas, was playing runningback for Team Sanders.
Television commentators Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth were impressed with Johnson's performance and complimented his noticeable enthusiasm for the game.
