Bill Flores, U.S. Representative for Texas District 17, was extremely impressed by what he saw at the Greater Waco Advanced Manufacturing Academy during his tour of the school on February 13. Flores knows that by learning a skill in high demand, students will be better able to secure good paying jobs after graduation and help restore a sluggish economy.
Flores, whose Congressional district includes Waco and McLennan County, came to GWAMA at the request of Rick Tullis, president of Capstone Mechanical and supporter of the Academy. Flores began his visit with a question and answer session with approximately 30 students. Questions ranged from legislative protocol in Washington to concerns about the future of social security. The Congressman then made his way to the lab for welding and cutting torch demonstrations.
