University High School choir student Quashara Newton has been named a Texas Music Scholar for the 2013-2014 school year by the Texas Music Educators Association. The Texas Music Scholar Award is given to high school music students who exemplify the attributes of meritorious performance in the areas of scholarship, musicianship and citizenship.

In order to be recognized, Quashara had to maintain an “A” average in her course work, participate in choir concerts, perform a Class 1 solo, qualify for a TMEA honor choir, and consistently exhibit behavior that brought honor to her school. Quashara was nominated by Pamela Bridges, head choral director at University High School.
