Waco ISD to host free event for families

Waco, TX:  To help students start the new school year healthy, energetic, and ready for learning, Waco Independent School District is sponsoring the first-annual Waco ISD Back to School Family Fest on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 9 a.m. until noon, for all Waco ISD students and their families.

This free event will be held in two locations:  Waco High, which is located at 2020 N. 42nd Street, and University High, which is located at 3201 S. New Road.  Families residing in the University High attendance zones should attend the Back to School Family Fest at University High School.  Families residing in the Waco High attendance zones should attend the Back to School Family Fest at Waco High.

The Waco ISD Back to School Family Fest replaces Hip Hop 2 Health, formerly sponsored by VOICE.  As in years past, free school supplies will be passed out while they last.  Free food and entertainment will also be offered for attendees.  In addition, free health screenings will be offered by various Waco organizations and businesses.  Many local organizations and businesses will attend the event at both locations. They will offer games, freebies, and information about their products and services.

The goal of Back to School Family Fest is to make sure families are starting the new school year healthy, energetic, and ready for learning!  Health and education are keys for success. Roxanne Bass, Waco ISD Coordinator of Compensatory Education Services and one of the key event organizers states, “Waco ISD cares about our children and their families. Come, help us celebrate your school, learn about resources available to you, and kick off a great new school year.”
