Besides throwing touchdown passes on Saturday afternoons, Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty throws make believe touchdown passes most every week to Jesus Curtis Joe Walker. Jesus, also known as CJ, is a student at Cesar Chavez Middle School. Thanks to Big Brothers Big Sisters Waco, CJ now has a best friend and mentor in Petty.
A television production company hired by CBS Sports was in town recently to shoot a story featuring Bryce and CJ. Most of the footage was shot in Kendrick Park where the two were tossing a football. The piece is scheduled to air on CBS during Thanksgiving weekend.
CJ's mother, Monisha Douglas, found it difficult to hold back tears as she talked about the connection Petty has made with her son.
"He has made such a difference in CJ's life," said Douglas. "He has become a better son, a better student and a better person thanks to Bryce's influence. And he smiles a lot more, too."
