 A real Alta Vista Hero!

Honesty is the best policy. Recently, an Alta Vista Elementary student exemplified that this timeless phrase is alive and well in his young life. Fourth-grade teacher Devin Culpepper keeps a personal library in her classroom from which her students can borrow. Many of the books are those Culpepper had she was growing up. Now that she's become a teacher, she gets a joy out of seeing her books continue their shelf life.

About a month ago, Keric Donahue-Perez borrowed and took home one of his teacher's childhood books. The following day, he brought the teacher $215, long lost Christmas money that Culpepper had received when she was nine years old.

"My mom and dad told me if you find something that doesn't belong to you, you should return it to its rightful owner," said Keric. "So that's what I did."

"The money had been missing for so long that I had forgotten about it," said Culpepper. "Keric could have kept it and I would have never known. But he did the right thing and I am so proud of him."

We are proud of Keric, too!
