Waco ISD was pleased to have representation at a special luncheon at Baylor University on Monday, January 12. Hosted by the Truitt Seminary, the event featured Dr. Charles Foster Johnson, pastor of Bread Fellowship of Fort Worth. Johnson is a leader of a movement entitled Pastors for Texas Children. The goal of his group is to encourage church leaders throughout the state to be advocates for Texas school children during the 83rd legislative session and beyond.

"Our mission is simple and difficult," said Johnson. "We want to mobilize the faith community for public education ministry and advocacy."

Currently, thirty Waco area churches serve as Adopt-A-School partners at Waco ISD. Johnson would like to see that sort of volunteerism among churches mirrored throughout the state. He also believes church congregations can effectively urge state legislators to adequately and equitably fund public schools.
