On Tuesday and Wednesday, April 21 and 22, six high school choirs from Waco ISD traveled to Harker Heights High School for the 2015 Region 8 UIL Concert & Sight Reading contest.  For the first time in decades, each of the participating Waco ISD choirs from University High and Waco High schools returned with Superior (1st Division) ratings in the Concert portion of the contest.

Two of Waco High's five choirs, the Varsity Mixed Choir and Non-Varsity Treble Choir, captured the prestigious Sweepstakes Award by earning 1st Division Ratings in both the concert and sight reading portions of the contest. The Waco High Varsity Treble (Women's) Choir, Waco High Varsity Men's Choir, and Waco High Non-Varsity Mixed choirs each returned with an Award Plaque for earning 1st Division ratings in Concert and all received 2nd Division ratings in the Sight Reading category.

The University High School Non-Varsity choir graduated its program status to Varsity for the upcoming school year by capturing 1st Division ratings in Concert.

The success of these Waco ISD students is a reflection of their hard work in the classroom during the academic year as well as their vocal musicianship.  Waco High School Choral Directors are Carrie Forehand and Christie Lujan.  University High School Choral Directors are Pam Bridges and Lucy Murphy.
