Donning surgical attire, the CEOs of Waco's two major medical care providers cut the blue gauze ribbon to officially open the Greater Waco Advanced Health Care Academy on Tuesday, September 15. Glenn Robinson, President of Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center, and Brett Esrock, CEO of Providence Medical Center also expressed their excitement about Waco's newest school.
Ninety-one students are currently enrolled this fall at the Advanced Health Care Academy, a unique and innovative collaboration between the local health care community and Waco area school districts whose students are interested in pursuing careers in health care. The Academy was created as a direct response from local medical care providers who are constantly searching for skilled hospital workers.
In addition to Scott & White and Providence, the founding partners include Family Health Center, McLennan Community College, ESC Region 12 and Waco ISD. Participating school districts include Mexia ISD, Lorena ISD, Robinson ISD, Riesel ISD, Waco ISD, Midway ISD, Troy ISD, Methodist Children's Home, McGregor ISD and LaVega ISD.
