The Cove, a safe haven for Waco ISD students who are classified as "homeless" in accordance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, is closer to becoming a reality thanks to a philanthropy class at Baylor University.
During the fall semester, 21 Baylor University students enrolled in an elective course entitled Philanthropy and the Public Good. The Cove was one of several non-profit organizations the students chose to learn more about and support. On Tuesday, December 8, a four-student team who researched The Cove had the opportunity to present the project a check for $12,520.
This is only the third semester that Philanthropy and the Public Good has been offered at Baylor University. Judging from the students who presented checks today, its popularity will surely grow. The course is taught by Dr. Andy Hogue.
