"Fastest Fifth-Grader"

During the Hall-of-Fame game, we held a third-quarter 50-yard sprint race for 30 fifth-grade students, each representing a Waco ISD elementary school. Winning the Boys' race was Dean Highland and Cedar Ridge won the girls' race.

The purpose of the race?

To promote school and team spirit in the elementary schools. The winning fifth-graders earned a pizza and cupcake party for their entire grade.

After their impressive victories in November, Shameka Franklin of Cedar Ridge Elementary and Daylan Vernon of Dean Highland Elementary have received the fruits of their labor. Make that the pizzas of their labor. Shameka and Daylan are the fastest fifth-grade girl and boy in Waco ISD for 2015-16. As a result, they and their classmates were treated to Peter Piper Pizza parties.

The annual Hall of Fame football game between University and Waco High features a special event at the end of the third quarter. That's when the speediest fifth-grade boys and girls from each Waco ISD elementary school line up for an exciting 50-yard dash. The race is part of a fantastic Friday night of fun at the Waco ISD Stadium.
