Becoming a Texas All-State Choir member is the highest honor a choir student can receive. Approximately only the top 3% of the 16,000 students from around the state who audition are selected through a process that begins for many in the summer with All-State Choir Camps. This four-step competitive process begins throughout the state in auditions hosted by 28 TMEA Regions. Individual musicians perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each voice part. From this ranking, a select group of musicians advances from their Region to compete against musicians from other Regions in seven TMEA Area competitions. The highest-ranking musicians judged at the TMEA Area competitions qualify to perform in a TMEA All-State music group.
We are so excited to announce that Nick Atkins a junior at Waco High School ranked third chair this past Saturday at the Area round competition placing him in the highest choir, the All-State Mixed Choir. This qualifies him to participate in three days of rehearsals directed by a nationally recognized conductor during the annual state Texas State Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention held February 10-13 in San Antonio TX. He will perform with the top young men and women in the state on Saturday February 13th at noon.
Please join the Waco High Choral Staff, Carrie Forehand, head choral director, Christie Lujan, assistant choral director and Glenn Beals, vocal instructor, in congratulating Nick on all his hard work!
