We are thrilled to announce that the 2016 WHS UIL Cross Examination Debate team is heading to Austin!

On Saturday, February 6th, four teams traveled to Hutto to compete in the District 17-5A CX Debate contest. After 5 grueling rounds of debate, our team took 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places, as well as the Top Speaker Award for the District.

2nd Place - Julian Nicholson & Sarah Sriram
3rd Place - Tansy Ackermann & Lexi Field
4th Place - Nick Barrera & Bryson Shavers

Top Speaker - Julian Nicholson

Cross-Examination Debates are composed of two teams of two people each, debating policies of the United Stated Federal Government. This year, the topic is:

RESOLVED: The United States Federal Government should substantially curtail its domestic surveillance.

They were debating various policies and plans related to domestic surveillance.

Also making a strong showing in Prelims was the team of Maria Briseno & Carnealus Manning.

The team of Nicholson & Sriram will be competing in the UIL CX Debate State Meet in Austin in March. They are the first WISD team in many years to compete at this level!

Please join me in congratulating all of these students for making WISD so proud!
