In Waco ISD, we believe community and parental involvement are a prerequisite to student success. To that end, the Waco ISD Board of Trustees has formed Community Transformation Committees to help the District follow the directives of HB 1842. Committees are being formed specifically to attend to the needs of Alta Vista, Brook Avenue and J.H. Hines Elementaries as well as G.W. Carver and Indian Spring Middle Schools, The CTCs will hold a series of meetings at these campuses. See schedule for more information. A light meal will be served and child care will be provided.
Members of the committees will be composed of parents, neighbors, teachers, and other community leaders who will learn more about:
- each school and neighborhood,
- the root causes of each school’s failure to meet state standards, and
- the new laws and penalties triggered by continued failure to meet these ever-rising standards which include school closure by TEA.
The committees will then partner with Waco ISD to develop options for Board consideration should the schools not improve fast enough to meet TEA deadlines.
This is important work, and their input and participation is vital to the success of our neighborhood schools.
Meetings are open to the public.
