Many students never have to worry about where their next meal comes from or if they have a safe place to sleep for the night. But many other students of Waco ISD do struggle with these issues daily. They are homeless, or unaccompanied, and have few options.
The Cove, a safe haven for Waco ISD students who are classified as "homeless" in accordance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, is extending a helping hand to homeless and unaccompanied students.
It is the purpose of WISD's Department of Homeless Outreach Services and local charities like The Cove to identify and help students struggling with homelessness. Dr. Cain discusses the issue with Cathy Wigtil and Cheryl Pooler.
