My name is Elizabeth Garcia, and I am a junior and proud member of the Waco High Academy of Health Services. It is my first year being a part of Health Science at Waco High and it has been an amazing experience. As a child, I grew up around a family of doctors. They ranged from cardiologists to surgeons and even general family doctors. Seeing how my uncles and cousins worked, I felt inspired to learn more about the human body and how to help sick people. I always wanted to be able to help people and I wanted to help them the same way my family did. I was unaware of all the health service programs that Waco High offered, so when I did learn about it I wanted to get involved. I am extremely proud of the work I have accomplished in these programs. Anything really is possible whether it's your first year or not. My team and I were all new and this year we had the opportunity to compete at district and state levels through SkillsUSA and are advancing to the national level in health science. Being part of the health services program has opened so many doors for me: I have been CPR certified and have learned so much this past year alongside great advisors to guide me through. My goal is to attend a four year university after I graduate and major in Occupational Therapy. Afterwards I plan to attend medical school and become a physician, and I hope to learn and help many people along the way. As a physician, I plan to work in a hospital and apply everything I have learned throughout my experience in the health services. I hope to expand my abilities in a field that provides many opportunities.
