It was a tough night all around for Waco High's Lions Friday night. Midway took a 6-0 lead into the halftime locker room thanks to an early Waco turnover. After the break the Panthers took advantage of more Lion's mistakes and some untimely injuries and closed out a 28-7 win.
It was Marty Herbst's teams first loss after opening the season with three straight wins, and the bad news wasn't only on the scoreboard. Lions QB Will Richards was injured in the second half and was on crutches after the game.
The Panthers defense was able to clamp down on Waco High's running attack that had been averaging more than 300 yards per game. Terrance Hamilton had the only touchdown for the Lions, narrowing the gap to 14-7 in the third quarter.
Midway quarterback Tanner Mordecai ran the Panther's offense with precision, boosting his team to 2-2, while Waco dropped to 3-1 with District play opening next week.
