UHS Academy of Engineering students create rockets, perform test flights, learn more, and repeat the process as they work toward the launch of a rocket in Fredericksburg.
Students learned more about the importance of fin design after the flight of their first rocket. The lessons they learned were incorporated into the design of their 2nd generation rockets.
Chase Davis, Academy of Engineering junior, learned of the important relationship between the surface area and the mass of the fins. His first rocket did not flight straight up but rather spun upwards. By evening out the mass and the surface area, he hope this generation 2 rocket will perform much better.
