Each Friday, several members of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority from Baylor University mentor and read with a group of 2nd graders at Parkdale Elementary.
Today, the mentor session was anything but small or quiet. It included the entire Second Grade where they were joined by over 80 members of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
The “Reading is Key” event began with The Berenstain Bears book, “Go to School”, read aloud by one of the sorority members. Then, each member partnered up with a student to make a bear mask. Before the students were dismissed, each one was given a book so that they could keep practicing their reading skills at home.
Baylor University’s Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority has partnered with Parkdale Elementary for the last 15 years. A non-profit organization called Reading is Fundamental is one of Kappa’s national philanthropy groups, thus it is no secret that they believe in the importance of reading. Thankfully the students at Parkdale Elementary are reaping those benefits.
