11 a.m. - Austin Ave. The sounds of light traffic and tweeting birds suggest it's another typical day in downtown Waco. But wait, the thumping of drums and powerful brass horns in the distance signals this is no ordinary day. And it's getting closer! By J.P. Sousa, its a parade!
And we do so love parades. Especially when used to commemorate the sacrifices made by our armed service men and women, and their families.
We will never fully know the level of sacrifice made by our soldiers, airmen, sailors and marines. How can we as civilians, though we owe our very way of life to them all. All we can do is thank them, and support them, however we can.
And, as a nod to our very own teacher-veterans (Teachers who are also Veterans), here's a story about how one teacher took their military experiences and used them to help reach troubled inner-city Chicago youth.
Hope you enjoy.
