Dr. Bonny Cain announces retirement at end of school year
Waco ISD Superintendent Dr. Bonny Cain announced to the Board of Regents Thursday night she is retiring at the end of this school year. Cain, who will be 66 soon, says she has been considering retirement for a couple of years and has been discussing it with Board President Pat Atkins since March.

Cain said she wanted to steer the District through the complex University High investigation before making the announcement now, which gives Trustees 4-6 months to find a replacement.
She hopes to move to East Texas to spend time with her family after she steps down.
Atkins praised Cain for all she's done for the District since being hired in 2011. "GWAMA, GWAHCA, the Atlas Academy, the musicals, the improvements we've made on scores the last couple of years, the employee satisfaction scores have trended up the last couple of years... We're in a good place right now," he said, thanking the District leader.
The Board will start the search for a new superintendent immediately.
