A successful fall semester has come and gone!
The Summer started with a bang allowing the band to put half of the show on the field before camp was over. We had record numbers attend camp which also gave fuel to our drive as a band. A very calculated decision to make a change to our practice schedule, from 3 hours twice a week to 3 hours once a week, gave way to very productive Monday rehearsals with record attendance.
Thanks to a custom show from Creative Marching Solutions, a great set of volunteers and paid staff, the band was able to earn unanimous first divisions at UIL Marching Contest for the first time since 1979.
Add four new Band Staff Members Mr. Arthur Torres (a University High School Alumni), Mr. Justin Lindsay ( a Louisiana Native Assistant UHS Band Director), Mr. Glenn Price (Theater Director and Color Guard instructor), and Mr. Andrew Vowell (Percussion instructor and CCMS Assistant Director) and you have an effective team that helped the 200+ students show the Greater Waco community and beyond what they are made of!
A special thank you too our outstanding band booster that was at every game keeping the children fed and hydrated and made it possible for us to have the largest front ensemble we have ever had.
Without an administrative staff including Dr. Bill Shepard and Mr. Larry Carpenter we wouldn’t not have been as successful. Our administrative staff showed this year that with the right support the Mighty Trojan Band can be exceptionally successful at contest!
Thanks also to our parents and amazing students for making music an important part of their lives. Many parents and students sacrificed time and resources showing that the Trojan family is truly a family that takes care of each other through thick and thin.
We also had record numbers participating at TMEA All Region tryouts and Raymond Banuelos decided he wanted to tryout against a level higher. Raymond advanced to Area and was selected to be in the 6A Symphonic band that will perform with most of the best musicians in our region at Copperas Cove High School this Saturday January 15, 2017.
The band is now accepting band handbooks for the upcoming year. Winter Guard and Indoor percussion are in full swing for the first time in UHS history and we are excited to see the guard perform on the 28th on January.
The Indoor Percussion line is instructed by Mr. Andrew Vowell and Mr. Richard Donahue. They will perform for the first time on the 25th of February the same day the rest of the band will perform as solos and ensembles at UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest here at University High School.
Our three concert bands will compete at UIL Concert and Sight Reading on the 11th and 12th of April.
We will host Waco ISD District Evaluation for all bands in Waco ISD for the first time this year as well as host UIL Solo and Ensemble for over 1000 students from our Region 8. We will also host UIL Concert and Sight Reading for Region 8 Middle Schools in April. If you would like to help us at any of these events please contact the Mr. Hatten: email@example.com.
Thank you MTB Fans for your support and remember: O.T.A.T.!
