Learning about Credit pays

Gary Pilant from Community Bank and Trust, one of Waco High School’s Adopt-School partners, spoke to Mrs. Moulds’ academic decathlon and economic classes today. These classes included 10th through 12th grade students.  Mr. Pilant expressed how having credit is something that is a necessity today, but everyone needs to be smart as to how they use their credit.

He went on to talk about the three major credit reporting agencies; Experian, TransUnion and Equifax. The students were shocked to hear that there are 600 factors that go into calculating their credit score, and derogatory credit will take seven years to drop off of a credit report.

Mr. Pilant also touched on student loans, checking accounts vs. savings accounts and the different types of credit cards. Overall, Mrs. Moulds’ classes walked away with some excellent knowledge today! Thank you to Gary Pilant and Community Bank and Trust for your time and support of Waco High School.
