Waco ISD cancelling Board election, incumbents unopposed

With both incumbents who are running for re-election unopposed, the Waco Independent School District has notified McLennan County Elections Administrator Kathy Van Wolfe it is cancelling the May 6 Board Election.

Cary DuPuy (Dist. 7 at-large) and Larry Perez (Dist. 3) both filed to keep their seats, and no challengers opposed them to get on the ballot before the Friday, Feb. 17 deadline. The District also received no Declarations of Write-In Candidacy by that deadline of Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 5 p.m.

Consequently, the District will save the expense and ask Trustees at a special March 1 Board meeting to cancel the upcoming election scheduled for May 6, 2017 and declare Mr. Perez and Mr. DuPuy elected.

Perez will be serving his sixth term on the Board, while DuPuy will be starting his third three-year term as a Trustee.
