University High School Junior ROTC cadets competed at the 16th annual Tarleton State Drill Competition on the TSU campus. Last year's coverall champs,Caprock High School in Amarillo, took the overall again this year, but the Trojan Cadets represented UHS with great success, claiming both Female and Male physical fitness top honors.

Lt. Col. Marty R. Deckard, professor of military science who oversees the Army ROTC program at TSU, explained, "[Tarleton's] Texan Battalion Army ROTC and Corps of Cadets hosted the drill meet. JROTC cadets from 13 high Schools participated in the drill meet consisting of five events: Armed Drill, Unarmed Drill, Exhibition Drill, Color Guard and Physical Fitness competitions.
"Tarleton's Army ROTC supports JROTC programs to motivate young people in the art of leadership and citizenship," Deckard said. "The meet is an opportunity for JROTC cadets to develop sportsmanship, camaraderie and esprit de corps."
