Posted on 04/18/2017

Judy Powell, 73, passed away Friday, April 14, 2017, at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Waco.

Powell taught at Waco High School from 2004 to 2009 and then moved to G.L.Wiley.  She shared her wisdom teaching English there until this past February when she retired.

In December of 2014, Judy earned an Outstanding Teacher Award. We'd like to share a clip from the ceremony.

"She was a fighter and we will miss her kind spirit," said Wiley Principal Larryl Curtis, who let staff know about Powell's passing Saturday and then told students when they returned to classes Tuesday.

"She was dedicated and worked until the very end.  In fact, she did not want to stop teaching, but sometimes life intervenes," Curtis added.

The District sends its condolences and encourages prayer for Judy Powell's family.  Services were held Wednesday, April 19, at Lake Shore Funeral Home at 5201 Steinbeck Bend Drive in Waco.

A memorial service was held at 10 a.m., Wednesday.
