The Suspending Kids to School Initiative is a combination of four core programs aimed at changing school climate and student behaviors while reducing the number of students that are issued citations at school, given Alternative School placement or creating a record with a juvenile court.

Waco ISD is committed to addressing the behavioral and truancy issues that contribute to students missing school, struggling academically and ultimately dropping out. Through partnership and funding with the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor's Office, our district is attacking the problem on three fronts:

  1. PREVENTION - Catching conflicts and behavior before an incident occurs. Teaching and modeling good behavior so as to change the school climate. The following program is in place on all Waco secondary campuses to support prevention:
  2. INTERVENTION - Intervening in conflict once a resolution is not being met. The following program is in place on all Waco Secondary Campuses to support Intervention.
  3. TRIAGE - Once a student has been given an offense there are two program in place to help the student "divert" from alternative school placement or juvenile court.
