Magnet Schools Enrollment

Magnet School Enrollment Window is December 1 to January 27

Waco ISD offers differentiated learning opportunities and unique instruction with its two elementary magnet school campuses. Hillcrest PDS & Lake Air Montessori Magnet use a random lottery process for student selection rather than geographic boundaries or attendance zones. Any student, living within or beyond the Waco ISD attendance boundaries, may apply to one of these magnet programs.

Applications for magnet campuses are accepted only during the designated application period and parents must complete the online application process. Students currently attending magnet schools are required to complete the online "Intent to Return" in order to save their child's spot on campus for the following school year. See below for details.

Magnet campuses in the public school system offer unique instruction and/or programs not available elsewhere and designed to attract a more diverse student body from throughout the school district.

For magnet schools, the same school attendance rules apply and transportation to and from school each day is the responsibility of the parent.

Applications for magnet campuses are accepted only during the designated time period and are only accepted through the online application process. Students are selected via a randomized lottery process and based on the number of available spaces at the specific campus.

Families of students (selected and not selected) are notified by letter in February of the current school year.

Students currently attending magnet schools are required to complete an online "Intent to Return" form in order to maintain their child's spot on campus for the coming school year.

Waco ISD offers differentiated learning opportunities via two magnet schools. You can learn more about them below:

Campus Showcase

Our Campus Showcase is scheduled for Tuesday, January 17th from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

The Showcase is our chance to showoff the campus to new families/students interested in applying/attending HPDS for the 2017-2018 school year. Come tour the campus. Visit with teachers. Ask questions and get answers. We hope you will attend!

logoHillcrest Professional Development School (HPDS) is a fine-arts magnet school that focuses on art, music and performance.

At HPDS, students are afforded unique opportunities through "Everywhere Learning." Students experience learning through field trips to places in Waco, outside of Waco and sometimes out of Texas. Through journaling, scripting and being provided the chance to perform on stage, work backstage, run stage lights and handle props, students bring learning to life.

Also, HPDS is Waco ISD's first Professional Development School in collaboration with Baylor University. With Baylor Education students in the classrooms, HPDS students experience smaller student-to-teacher ratios and are exposed to co-teaching. In collaboration with a Baylor Professor and PDS Coordinator, our classroom teachers, our students and the Baylor Education students all work together to create a productive and synergetic learning environment.
